Harford County Weather Forecast Page

category: General Chatter — David Stansbury @ 11:14 am — permalink | pingback | RSS

I debugged an old project and got the Harford weather forecast program running again. As with any forecast data I would be suspect of long-term data, but the short-term (3 or 4 days) should be fairly reliable. Data is provided by the NWS so accuracy is as good as it gets, the RSS feed I am using is courtesy of ejse.com. I set up an automated process (cron job) to fetch the latest forecast data every half hour, then it is stored in a local MySQL database for local consumption. This process is “host friendly” and helps conserve the feed bandwidth - the feed is pinged 48 times a day, but the local data products are generated and displayed about 800 times a day (and growing).

I am also coding new forecast display banners to use the revived data feed. This will allow for redistribution on other Harford County related websites, like Harford Vista or Edgewood Maryland.
