Internet Explorer 7 RC1 Pre-Release - no Adsense displayed?

category: Computer & Security — David Stansbury @ 11:49 pm — permalink | pingback | RSS

IE7 RC1 was just released, so I downloaded it and am trying it out now. This version supercedes the 3 previous beta releases. Having used it for only an hour so far, I can say that most of the beta bugs have been fixed! The default search engine is easily changed and new tabs open and close well. I will have to wait a bit before saying how fast it is, but it definitely “feels” faster than the last beta. I do like the anti-phishing filter, it is a very welcome addition - kudos to Microsoft.

One bit I definitely noticed early - Google Adsense advertisements are not displayed under IE7 RC1, but are indeed present when I use Firefox. I haven’t figured out if this is a fluke, a JavaScript problem, an ad-blocking feature or an artifact from my spyware and adware preventative measures. It is odd that the ads display in Firefox and not IE7.

  1. I figured out the problem. It seems that either Spybot or Spywareblaster put the domain googlesyndication.com into the Internet Explorer “restricted zone”. Once removed, Adsense ads started appearing on the screen again.

I still find it interesting that Firefox and IE6 showed Adsense ads, but IE7 did not. Apparently Microsoft is indeed taking browser security very seriously!
