Frustrated with oil, it must be replaced

category: General Chatter — David Stansbury @ 9:56 am — permalink | pingback | RSS

I reiterate my past sentiments about fossil fuels - their use is prehistoric, dangerous, inefficient and damaging our world. Prices shoot through the roof when there is a storm in the Gulf of Mexico. Our national security and economy are dangerously tied to a bunch of crazy assholes in the middle east. Greed for oil has lead to devastating environmental impact, both direct and indirect. This is unwise and unacceptable!

There must be a call out made to our elected officials and industry leaders. The United States has the technology and renewable resources to safely produce clean, efficient energy. Ethanol E-85 has been available for years but remains a largely untapped energy resource.  Why?  Is it because of politics, greed or apathy?  We need to make a concerted and decided effort to reduce our dependency on oil. For years we have used hydroelectric, wind and solar power to produce limited amounts of energy. This effort, especially wind and solar, should be greatly expanded. In addition, the promise of fusion energy may provide large amounts of safe, clean power - eliminating the need to burn tons of coal and oil to inefficiently generate electricity.

Another great promise is thin film solar - a technology that is proven and available today, also here and discussed here. Even Honda is getting into the game. The hope is to mass produce inexpensive solar electric modules to greatly decrease the cost of ownership. Perhaps one day, instead of sunlight heating up our tar and asphalt-lined roofs, we could be using this wasted energy to recharge our electric cars. Sounds good to me.
