I have not dug into the registry yet but the option is still very open. We have over a dozen Windows XP workstations at my job that I maintain. If (when) Windows needs to be reinstalled I follow a fairly logical procedure in order: Reinstall the OS and hardware drivers, download and install all Windows Updates including IE7, install the latest stable version of Firefox browser and Thunderbird email, then miscellaneous programs like Yahoo Messenger. With this routine, links sent via Yahoo Messenger always open Firefox, the default browser.

It seems the problem is more isolated to when one upgrades to IE7 with an already established, working computer. It's like the upgrade process gives IE7 a "partial" default browser status. Firefox is still pinned on the Start menu as the browser, and emailed links, desktop shortcut links and Explorer web address entry still open Firefox, but something seems to get crossed up in Yahoo.

I haven't been able to replicate the phenomena in programs other than Yahoo, so I feel this is something related to the Yahoo Messenger software like a registry setting.

Interestingly I have a similar problem with Windows Vista on my laptop. Firefox is the default web browser for most applications but links sent via Yahoo Messenger open IE7. If time permits I'll dig thru the registry and if I find something awry I'll definitely post it here.

And not even now, after 3 months, the problem is still not solved. A couple of days ago they worked, for a couple of hours, but after this, they were again unclickable. Have googled around for any possible solution, have tried everything I've found, NOTHING worked... HEEEEEEELP!!!
