Guestbook Spammer Hall of Shame

category: Computer & Security — David Stansbury @ 11:03 pm — permalink | pingback | RSS

In the fall of 2005 I was forced to close my guestbook because of the massive amounts of spamming. Even though it is long closed I still receive lots of visit attempts to the old “sign” page URL, as shown in my server error logs. These attempts are apparently from bots or brain-dead spammers still trying to spam the old guestbook.

Just to have a little fun with the spammers, I made a small page in place of the old guestbook entry submit page. It collects the I.P., reverse I.P. lookup and reported user agent, then stores it in a database for later viewing. Now all the world can see who is trying to spam me!

Check out my guestbook spammer hall of shame here!

  1. This is a great project, thanks!

I have compared some of your spammer with the once from my site, and our spammers are almost identical!

Could you also re-write your script to make a seperate list with only IPs? Is so I could use it direct, to protect my guestbook.

    Thanks again (and merry Christmas)
