Security Software for Older Computers

category: Computer & Security — David Stansbury @ 11:51 pm — permalink | pingback | RSS

Today I was reinstalling Windows 98 on an older computer for a client. Pentium III, 500 MHz with 256 RAM. This was a client that does “high risk” web browsing so I threw everything I had at it - all latest Windows Updates, secured the hosts file, installed SpywareBlaster with updates, Spybot with updates, IE-SPYAD, Firefox web browser and AVG Free antivirus. I needed to install a lightweight firewall application, something with little overhead. Then I thought about the aptly named “Tiny Personal Firewall“. Through Google search I finally found the older, free version at OldVersion.com. This is a neat website that offers downloads of older versions of popular software. Check it out!
