Spammers Just Don’t Know When To Quit
Today one of my website clients and distant relative of mine, Tracy A. Lynn, forwarded several emails to me with a bunch of gibberish and junk entries. Apparently some spammer tried to use her contact / feedback form to post their usual garbage. This might have worked back in the old days, but this is 2006 people! Fortunately, when I created the contact form in PHP I hard-coded the recipient email address, subject line and message headers. No spoofing of email headers, anonymous junk guestbook entries or other garbage here!
The code also reports their I.P. address; yes, he was using an open proxy server, no surprise there. Sure wish there was a practical way to block traffic from those pesky open proxies without creating a ton of server overhead.
