Trying Yahoo! again after an extended Google rut

October 18th, 2011 No comments

Recently during a workplace meeting one of the supervisors suggested us worker bees are stuck in a rut, and even went so far as to discuss bringing in motivational speakers.  Besides giving us bees a ‘WTF’ moment – I mean, really? – it did give me pause to think about things.  Not some deep, inner reflection of life and all that stuff, but more like how I could mix things up a bit and gain different perspectives.

So what does this have to do with anything?  Well I decided to go back and try a few things I haven’t done in a while, and one of them is Yahoo!.  They really do have a good landing page with the latest news articles and useful navigation links down the comfortably familiar left sidebar.  No vague “modern” color scheme or gimmicky drop-down menus to figure out.  Yahoo! was doing search, directory, video, email, chat groups and so much more LONG before Google hyped similiar features.  It’s a shame corporate investors (greed) made them sell their soul, remove some innovative features and turned to Microsoft for search, but in spite of this they do still have great products.  If you haven’t used Yahoo! in a while give it a another try & tell what you think in the comments !
